An elevator stays with a building for many years, so it deserves a careful choice.
Before you ask any company for a proposal, it helps to answer a few simple questions.
Here is what matters most.
Who will use the elevator?
Decide who will use it and when. An elevator for one family at home is not the same as one for a multi-storey building or a building that visitors pass through all day.
Also say whether it will sometimes carry a wheelchair, luggage or furniture. The expected load affects the size and capacity of the cabin.
Think about the future too: after some years the building may need more capacity or heavier use, and allowing for that now is easier than changing it later.
Which type suits you?
- Home elevator: suits villas and houses, and respects limited space.
- External elevator: installed outside the building structure or on its side, when the interior has no room.
- Panoramic elevator: surrounded by glass walls that give a view and natural light.
- Hydraulic elevator: a type usually considered for buildings with few floors.
The final choice depends on the building, its height and the space available, and it is settled after a site visit.
Does the building have room for it?
An elevator needs a suitable shaft, space below it and above it, and depending on the system, room for the drive unit.
If the building already exists, the options may differ from those of a building designed from the start, so say so plainly.
Ask the supplier to visit the site and give you a written proposal that sets out the dimensions and the preparation needed before work begins.
Finish and safety
Choose a finish that suits the building inside and out, but always put safety before looks.
Ask about the cabin doors and the control systems, and what the elevator does when the power fails.
Do not hesitate to ask for a plain explanation of each option. A serious company does not mind questions.
Think about maintenance from the start
A good elevator needs regular maintenance, because one that is neglected after installation loses much of its comfort and reliability over time.
Ask from the beginning what maintenance covers after installation, and how you reach the company when a fault occurs.
Your next step
Write down your needs, talk to more than one company if you wish, and compare the written proposals by what each one covers.
At Al Raqi Elevator we are glad to discuss your building's needs by phone or on WhatsApp.
