Inspection finds what daily use hides
An elevator that runs without complaints may carry faults passengers cannot feel: brakes that need adjustment, door locks whose resistance has weakened, and ropes that have begun to wear from the inside. These faults do not show in daily use, but they appear at the formal inspection and may lead the competent authority to order the elevator shut down.
